Why is China so successful?

I received this in my inbox a year or so ago. I guess history will be the judge.

1) US & Western "unfettered democracy" cannot work for China at this stage of her developement. It has also not worked for India; too much "red tape" & arguments & in the end, very little is done! Look at the main cities in India & even in US & compare them with China, especially over the past decade !

Non-partisan Humour

We hang petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office.
~Aesop, Greek slave & fable author

Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.
~Plato, ancient Greek Philosopher

Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge even where there is no river.
~Nikita Khrushchev, Russian Soviet politician

When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I'm
beginning to believe it.
~Quoted in 'Clarence Darrow for the Defence' by Irving Stone.

Politicians are people who, when they see light at the end of the tunnel, go out and buy some more tunnel.
~John Quinton, American actor/writer

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other.
~Oscar Ameringer, "The Mark Twain of American Socialism."

I offered my opponents a deal: "If they stop telling lies about me, I will stop telling the truth about them".

~Doug Larson (English middle-distance runner who won gold medals at the 1924
~Olympic Games in Paris, 1902-1981)

I am reminded of a joke:
What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is a solution!!!

House of ill repute

See if you can work this out:

There was a brothel at the top of a hill, with a large red light at the bottom of the hill..
There were four men ....
one was walking briskly up the hill;
one was inside the brothel;
one was walking slowly down the hill and
the fourth man was sitting in his car at the bottom of the hill.

What were the nationalities of the four men?

* The man going up the hill: was rushing (Russian)
* The man in the brothel: him-a-laying (Himalayan)
* The man walking down the hill: was finished (Finnish)

Now wait for it ..

Ya gonna hate this .............................................

* The man in the car at the bottom was Irish, and he was waiting for the light to turn green!

Comparing notes

A doctor from France says:
"In France , the medicine is so advanced that we cut off a man's testicles; we put them into another man, and in 6 weeks he is looking for work."

The German doctor comments:
"That's nothing, in Germany we take part of the brain out of a person;
we put it into another person's head, and in 4 weeks he is looking for work."

A Russian doctor says:
"That's nothing either. In Russia we take out half of the heart from a person;
we put it into another person's chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for work."

The U.S. doctor answers immediately:
"That's nothing my colleagues, you are way behind us....in the USA , about 5 years ago, we grabbed a person from Kenya with no brains, no heart, and no balls....we made him President of the United States , and now the whole damn country is looking for work.

The Chinese invasion of London

Talk to any upscale, London-based wine merchant and he’ll tell you two very important things about his rich Chinese clientele.
First, money is no object. Sotheby’s recently reported, for instance, that a vintage bottle of 1869 Chateau Lafite sold for more than £130,000 to a Chinese buyer.
And that’s for drinking now by the way: not to lay down in a cellar. ‘What we’ve seen emerging in the past year are people paying virtually any price for wine,’ said David Elswood, Christie’s head of wine. ‘That is not investment: that is just uncontrolled spending.’

Doctor's advice

A woman goes to the Doctor, worried about her husband's temper.

The Doctor asks: "What's the problem?

The woman says: "Doctor, I don't know what to do . Every day my husband seems to lose his temper for no reason. It scares me."
